We often think of a Dorkie is a person that is not very cool or popular; however, this is not an accurate explanation of what a Dorkie actually is. A Dorkie is a form of hybrid dog that is a purebred. It is a mix between the cross breeding of a Yorkshire terrier and a Dachshund Hound; therefore, Dorkies tend to have the features and qualities of both breeds.

A Dorkie is small in stature and their build. They tend to be no bigger than a poodle in their size and shape. They are very cute in their appearance because they have traits from two terrific breeds of dogs. They have an extremely full of life personality, and make for a good demeanor companion. They are very loving and make a great lap dog. They love to be cherished and adored. They can make a good choice as a pet for an individual or for a family because they love children.

As is true of any small pet, the pads of their feet are not able to with stand the cold and cannot tolerate the cold like bigger dogs. If their feet are protected from the elements and become too cold, the pads may crack and start to bleed. So make sure to protect the pads of the feet when it is cold.

Another issue that Dorkies seem to have is that of what is called Dew Claws. They are similar to a humans’ ingrown toenail. They can be painful for your pet if they are not taken care of.

If you are like most people, a dorkie is a bad word that you don’t say. There is a way different meaning that is associated with that word and that is your pet. That’s right, you’re pet. If you are wondering, a dorkie is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between Dachshund and a Yorkshire terrier. This is a small dog and is full of energy. These dogs are about the size of a poodle, so you have to take that into consideration when you are caring for these dogs.

In caring for a small dog, there are other things that you have to take into consideration. For instance, the feet of small dogs can’t handle the cold as well as bigger breeds of dogs. There are booties that you can get so that your dog can go outside during the winter months. Their feet are sensitive to the cold and can start bleeding if they get too cold. The pads on their feet crack and have a hard time healing if not properly cared for.

Another thing you have to think of is their dew claws on their feet. If you have an ingrown nail, it hurts you. That’s the same pain that these dogs feel if their dew claws are not properly maintained. If you can clip them, do it. If not take your dog to the vet and they can do it. The vet can also remove the dew claws altogether so you won’t have to worry.
